Privacy Policy

Overview

FocusFence is a Chrome extension that helps you manage screen time. Your privacy is fundamental to how we built this extension.

Data Collection

We collect zero user data. FocusFence does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. All data — including browsing time, site limits, settings, and streak history — is stored exclusively in your browser using Chrome's local storage API (chrome.storage.local) and session storage API (chrome.storage.session).

Data Storage

All data remains on your device:

• Daily usage statistics per domain
• User-configured time limits
• Extension settings and preferences
• Streak tracking data
• Temporary session data (snooze state, warning flags)

Usage data older than 30 days is automatically deleted.

Network Requests

FocusFence makes no network requests to any server we operate. The following external requests may occur:

• Google Favicon Service: The extension popup loads site icons from google.com/s2/favicons. This sends domain names (not URLs or browsing content) to Google to retrieve favicon images. No personal data is transmitted.
• Affiliate Product Links: The block screen displays curated productivity product links to Amazon. Clicking these links opens Amazon in a new tab. We may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. No user data is shared with Amazon through the extension.
• Razorpay Donation Link: An optional "Buy me a coffee" link opens a Razorpay payment page in a new tab. No data is sent unless you voluntarily choose to make a donation.

Permissions

• storage — To save your usage data and settings locally on your device
• tabs — To detect which site is currently active for time tracking. FocusFence reads only the URL and tab ID; it does not read page content.
• alarms — To run periodic tasks (service worker keepalive, daily data cleanup)
• notifications — To show optional warnings when approaching time limits

The extension requires access to all websites (<all_urls>) because screen time tracking must work on every site you visit. The content script only activates to display a blocking overlay when a configured time limit is reached.

Affiliate Disclosure

FocusFence displays curated productivity product recommendations on the time-limit block screen. These contain affiliate links to Amazon. If you purchase a product through these links, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This helps support continued development of the extension.

Third Parties

FocusFence does not share any personal data with third parties. There are no analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs. The only external services used are Google's favicon API (for displaying site icons) and Amazon affiliate links (for product recommendations).

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance.
